Beginning with simple tests and samples of students’ reading and writing, the adult quickly sees what each student needs to learn. Students practice 3 to 4 days a week to build skills one step at a time. They learn to blend sounds, separate sounds, tell vowel sounds apart, hear sound changes in words, and map sounds to letters and letter patterns. Extra-help ideas are provided for students who struggle with blending, segmenting, discriminating, and sequencing sounds in words.

The 20-Minute Phonemic Training program helps students improve reading and spelling. Each lesson takes 20 to 40  minutes and is easy to follow. Used by homeschooling parents, teachers, tutors, and speech pathologists, this program helps students increase reading fluency and spelling skills by one to three grade levels within months.

The program uses all of the senses:  seeing, hearing, feeling mouth movements, and touching, to help students remember what they learn. Phonic rules for associations between sound patterns and letter patterns are explained and practiced in many ways. The book includes worksheets, practice lists, and charts to track progress. There are 180 practice lists, which focus on changing one sound at a time and learning vowel sounds.

20 Minute Phonemic Training for Dyslexia, Auditory Processing and Spelling by Vickie Dinsmore offers a practical, structured approach to strengthening phonemic awareness. Designed for learners who struggle with reading, listening, and spelling, it uses short daily exercises to build confidence, improve decoding skills, and support language development.
